In 2004, Mario signed with Bežanija. After two seasons, his club was promoted to the top league in Serbia, the Serbian SuperLiga, in 2006. Mario played over 80 matches for Bežanija, scoring 18 goals, before moving to another SuperLiga club, Vojvodina, in 2007.

At Vojvodina, he became a regular player after a couple of seasons. His team finished second in the 2008–09 season. They also reached the final of the 2009–10 Serbian Cup but lost to his former club, Red Star. Mario left Vojvodina in 2011, having played more than 50 league matches.

On November 21, 2018, Mario signed another contract with Muangthong United. He announced his retirement from football on January 10, 2020, at the age of 34, after playing seven years in the Thai League.
