A Footballer's Journey
Starting in Serbia
Mario Gjurovski began his football journey in the youth teams of Serbian clubs. He started at Čukarički before moving to the famous Red Star Belgrade. To get more experience, he played on loan for smaller clubs like Mladenovac and Sopot.
In 2004, he joined Bežanija. He was a key player there for three years, helping the team get promoted to the Serbian SuperLiga, Serbia's top football league. He played over 80 games and scored 18 goals for the club.
Next, he moved to another top Serbian team, Vojvodina. With Vojvodina, he became an important player. His team finished second in the league during the 2008–09 season.
Moving to Ukraine and Thailand
In 2011, Gjurovski moved to a new country, signing with Metalurh Donetsk in the Ukrainian Premier League. But his biggest adventure was yet to come.
In 2012, he joined Muangthong United in Thailand. This move made him a superstar. In his very first season, he helped the team win the Thai Premier League without losing a single game! He became a fan favorite for his exciting style of play and his many goals. In four years with the club, he scored 59 goals in 121 matches.
Gjurovski was also known for his passionate and sometimes funny goal celebrations. Once, after scoring a goal in 2013, he did a very unusual celebration by taking off his shorts and putting them on his head. This got him a yellow card and he was sent off the field, but many fans still remember it.
After his successful time at Muangthong United, he played for other Thai clubs, including Bangkok United and Bangkok Glass, before returning to Muangthong United for one last season.
On January 10, 2020, Mario Gjurovski announced he was retiring from playing football.
Playing for His Country
Besides playing for clubs, Gjurovski also represented his home country, North Macedonia. He made his first appearance for the national team in May 2010 in a friendly match against Azerbaijan. He scored a goal in his very first game!
In total, he played 12 times for North Macedonia and scored two goals. His last international game was in November 2011.
From Player to Coach
After retiring as a player, Gjurovski didn't leave football. In October 2020, he became the new head coach, or manager, of Muangthong United, the same club where he had been a star player. He managed the team for almost three years, until September 2023.
A Family of Footballers
Football runs in the Gjurovski family. His father, Milko Djurovski, was also a famous international football player for Macedonia. His uncle, Boško Gjurovski, was another well-known player who represented both Yugoslavia and North Macedonia.
