Marion is a small, quiet place in Red Willow County, Nebraska, in the United States. It's close to the border with Kansas. Marion is what's called an unincorporated community. This means it doesn't have its own local government, like a mayor or city council. Instead, it's usually governed by the county it's in.
A Look Back at Marion
How Marion Started
Marion was officially planned out in 1901. When a town is "platted," it means someone drew up a map showing where the streets, lots, and public spaces would be. This helps organize how the community will grow. The community was named after Marion Powell, who owned some of the land there.
The Post Office Days
A post office is a really important part of any community, especially in the past. It was where people sent and received letters, packages, and news. A post office was opened in Marion in 1902. This meant that people living in and around Marion could easily send and get mail. However, the post office eventually closed down in 1953. This often happens in smaller communities as populations change or mail services become more centralized.
