Marisha Wallace's Amazing Journey

Starting on Broadway

Marisha Wallace began her exciting career on Broadway, which is like the biggest stage for musicals in New York City! She was part of the original cast of the musical Aladdin in 2014. She also performed in Something Rotten! in 2015. In these early roles, she was often part of the ensemble (the group of performers who sing and dance together) and was an understudy (meaning she learned the main roles and could step in if the main actor couldn't perform).

Shining in the West End

In 2017, Marisha moved to London to perform in the West End, which is London's version of Broadway! She joined the musical Dreamgirls as an alternate for the lead role of Effie White. An alternate performs the main role on certain days. Later, she took over the role completely, sharing it with other talented singers.

She also released a Christmas album called Soul Holiday in 2017.

Big Roles and Nominations

In 2019, Marisha joined the London cast of Waitress as the character Becky. Then, in 2021, she starred as Motormouth Maybelle in Hairspray at the London Coliseum. Her performance was so good that she was nominated for a Black British Theatre Award for Best Female Actor in a Musical!

In 2022, she played Ado Annie in Oklahoma! at the Young Vic theatre. This role earned her an Olivier Award nomination, which is one of the biggest awards for theatre in the UK!

Marisha's voice has also been heard in movies! She was the singing voice of Ms Johnston in Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey, a Christmas movie on Netflix.

More Stage Success and TV Appearances

In March 2023, Marisha started playing Miss Adelaide in Guys and Dolls at the Bridge Theatre in London. She was nominated for another Olivier Award for this role! She performed in this show until February 2024.

In March 2024, Marisha joined the TV show Celebrity Big Brother in the UK. This show features famous people living together in a house while being filmed. She was on the show for 16 days.

Later in 2024, she returned to the stage for a concert version of Something Rotten! at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. She also made a special guest appearance at concerts by singer Alex Newell. In December 2024, she tried something new: pantomime! She played the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood at the London Palladium.

Looking ahead to 2025, Marisha will be starring as Sally Bowles in the musical Cabaret at the Playhouse Theatre, performing alongside Billy Porter.
