Robin Hood is a famous folk hero from the Middle Ages. He is a legendary person, meaning people have told stories about him for hundreds of years. Robin Hood is still very popular today. You can find his adventures in books, plays, movies, and even cartoons.
There are many different versions of his stories. Usually, Robin Hood is an outlaw who lives in Sherwood Forest. This forest is near the town of Nottingham, England. His main enemies are Prince John and the Sheriff of Nottingham. Prince John is ruling England because his brother, King Richard the Lionheart, is away. King Richard is fighting in the Middle East during the Crusades.
Prince John and the Sheriff of Nottingham are often shown as unfair rulers. They use their power to take money from poor people. Robin Hood, with his amazing archery skills and clever plans, steals the money back. He then gives it to those who need it most. Robin is not alone; he has a loyal group of friends called the Merry Men. This group includes characters like Little John, Much the Miller's Son, Will Scarlet, Friar Tuck, and Alan a Dale.
Robin Hood in Movies and Shows
Robin Hood's exciting tales have been made into many movies. One very famous film is "The Adventures of Robin Hood," starring Errol Flynn. This movie helped make Robin Hood even more well-known.
In the 1970s, Disney created an animated movie about Robin Hood. In this version, all the characters are animals. Robin Hood and his love, Maid Marian, are both shown as clever foxes.
