Patrick Connolly Bergin (born 4 February 1951) is an Irish actor and singer. He is well-known for his roles in movies like Sleeping with the Enemy (1991), where he starred with Julia Roberts. He also played the main character in Robin Hood. You might also recognize him as Kevin O'Donnell in Patriot Games or as the character Aidan Maguire in the TV show EastEnders.

Early Life
Patrick Bergin was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1951. He grew up in an area called Drimnagh. His father, Patrick Bergin Snr., was a politician for the Labour Party.
When Patrick was 17, he moved to London. He worked different jobs, like on building sites and in a library. He also studied at night and earned a degree in education. For several years, he worked as an English teacher. Later, he decided to start his own theater company.
Acting Career
In 1980, Patrick Bergin decided to become a full-time actor. He started working in repertory theater, which means performing in different plays.
Famous Roles
One of Patrick Bergin's most famous roles was in the thriller movie Sleeping with the Enemy. In this film, he played the husband of Julia Roberts' character. He is also known for playing the Irish character Kevin O'Donnell in the movie Patriot Games.
In 1991, he took on the role of Robin Hood in a film where Uma Thurman played Maid Marian. Later, in 2013, he appeared in the Scottish movie The Wee Man. He also joined the cast of the BBC soap opera EastEnders in late 2017 and left the show in March 2018.
Music
Besides acting, Patrick Bergin also leads a band called Patrick Bergin and the Spirit Merchants. In 2003, their song "The Knacker" became a top 10 hit in Ireland. The song tells the story of a person who collects and recycles animal materials.
Patrick has also worked with other musicians. He appeared on Vlad DeBriansky's album Jacks Last Dollar. He was also in the music video for DJ Steve Mac's song "Paddy's Revenge".
In 2018, Patrick Bergin sang the song "Anthem" by Leonard Cohen. He performed this song at Croke Park during Pope Francis's visit to Ireland for the Festival of Families.
Helping Others
In 1993, Patrick Bergin bought an old church in County Tipperary. He turned it into a special center for poetry. He wanted to help young people with their writing. He explained that he gives money to groups to make videos, but only if they have a good story. He does this because it helps kids feel more confident and allows them to create something special.
In 1998, after a sad event involving a young person in Tallaght, Patrick helped set up a special fund. This fund was created to support young children from that area.
Personal Life
Patrick Bergin met Paula Frazier at a wedding in the early 1980s. She is a British woman with Caribbean roots. They got married in Trinidad and Tobago in 1992. They have one daughter named Tatiana, also known as Tia. After their marriage ended, Patrick started dating Helen Goldin.
