Mariu people facts for kids
The Mariu were an Indigenous Australian group of people who lived in the Northern Territory. We don't know much about their language, but it might have been similar to the Miriwung language.
Where the Mariu Lived
The Mariu people lived in a large area of land. According to Norman Tindale, who studied Indigenous Australian groups, their territory covered about 1,800 square miles (4,700 km2). This was in the southern part of where the Victoria River flows into the Joseph Bonaparte Gulf. The Bullo River was also an important part of their traditional lands.

Sometimes, the Mariu people were known by other names. These included:
- Mayu
- Mayoo
- Mariung
