Mariusz Pudzianowski (born February 7, 1977) is a famous Polish athlete. He is known as "Pudzian" or "Dominator". Mariusz was a top strongman competitor before becoming a mixed martial artist. Many people think he is one of the greatest strength athletes ever. He has won many international competitions.

Mariusz won the World's Strongest Man title five times. This is more than anyone else in history! He also came in second place twice, in 2006 and 2009. He reached the final round of the World's Strongest Man competition nine times. Mariusz also won the Europe's Strongest Man contest six times, which is another record. In 2009, Mariusz started a new career in mixed martial arts.

Early Life and Training

Mariusz Pudzianowski was born in Biała Rawska, Poland. His father, Wojciech, was a weightlifter. Mariusz became interested in sports very early. When he was 11, he started training in Kyokushin karate. He still holds a green belt in this style.

At 13, he began strength training. When he was 15, Mariusz also started boxing. He trained in boxing for seven years. His first professional sports event was at age 16. He competed in a Polish weightlifting championship for the bench press.

On May 1, 1999, Mariusz joined his first Strongman competition. It was held in Płock, Poland. He quickly became successful on the world stage. In 2000, he finished fourth at the 2000 World's Strongest Man contest. This was his first time at this big event.

Mariusz returned in 2002 and won his first 2002 World's Strongest Man title. He won again in 2003 at the 2003 World's Strongest Man event. He won by a huge lead, showing how strong he was. He finished first in four events and second in two others. A British strongman, Laurence Shahlaei, said this was the most impressive win ever. In March 2004, Mariusz also became the Strongman Super Series World Champion.

In 2005, he came back to the World's Strongest Man event. After a slow start, he won five events in a row. This helped him win the title again.

In 2006, he placed second at the 2006 World's Strongest Man contest. Phil Pfister won that year. Mariusz won his title back in 2007. This was his fourth win, putting him in a special group of athletes. He wanted to be the only person to win five times. He returned for the 2008 World's Strongest Man to try and reach this goal.

Even with a calf injury, Mariusz won his group in 2008. He made it to the final round. He was behind the leader, Derek Poundstone, with two events left. Mariusz won the Plane Pull event, even with his injury. This brought him very close to the lead. In the final event, the Atlas Stones, Mariusz beat Poundstone. He became the first and only person to win five World's Strongest Man titles!

He competed in the 2009 World's Strongest Man competition in Malta. He hoped to win a sixth title. He finished second after Žydrūnas Savickas won the title for the first time. After this, Mariusz said he would stop strongman events. He wanted to focus on his new career in Mixed Martial Arts. This new sport needed different training.
