Mariusz Zbigniew Pudzianowski (born 7 February 1977) is a famous Polish athlete. People know him as "Pudzian" or "Dominator". He is a mixed martial artist and used to be a strongman competitor.

Mariusz is one of the best strength athletes ever. He has won 43 international strongman competitions. He also holds over 20 world records in strongman events. He won the World's Strongest Man title five times, which is more than anyone else! He also won the Europe's Strongest Man title six times. In 2009, Mariusz started a new career in mixed martial arts (MMA).

Early Life and Training

Mariusz Pudzianowski was born in Biała Rawska, Poland. His father, Wojciech, was a weightlifter. Mariusz became interested in sports very early.

He started training in the Kyokushin style of karate when he was 11. He earned a 4th kyu green belt. At 13, he began strength training. When he was 15, Mariusz also started boxing and trained for seven years. He first competed professionally in weightlifting at age 16.

Mariusz Pudzianowski entered his first strongman competition on 1 May 1999. It was held in Płock, Poland. He quickly became successful on the world stage.

He finished fourth in his first 2000 World's Strongest Man contest. Mariusz then won his first World's Strongest Man title in 2002. He won again in 2003, showing amazing strength. He won by the biggest point difference ever in the competition. He also became the Strongman Super Series World Champion in March 2004.

In 2005, Mariusz returned to the World's Strongest Man event. After a slow start, he won five events in a row. This helped him win the title again. In the 2006 World's Strongest Man contest, he finished second. He lost to Phil Pfister, who won the last five events.

Mariusz won his fourth title in 2007. He became one of only a few athletes to win the competition four times. He wanted to be the only person to win five times. He returned for the 2008 World's Strongest Man to try and achieve this goal.

Even with a serious calf injury, Mariusz won his heat. He made it to the final round. He won the Plane Pull event despite his injury. In the final event, the Atlas Stones, he beat Derek Poundstone. This made him the first and only person to win five World's Strongest Man titles!

He competed in the 2009 World's Strongest Man and finished second. After this, Mariusz decided to focus on his new career in Mixed Martial Arts.

Amazing Personal Records

Mariusz Pudzianowski has set many impressive records. Here are some of his best lifts and achievements:

During Training

  • Bench press – 290 kilograms (640 lb) (that's like lifting two big refrigerators!)
  • Squat – 380 kilograms (840 lb) (more than a small car!)
  • Deadlift – 415 kilograms (915 lb) (heavier than a horse!)

In Competitions

  • Atlas Stones – He lifted 5 stones weighing 115–155 kg (254–342 lb) onto tall platforms in just 21.09 seconds. This was a world record in 2006.
  • Ding Carry – He carried 160 kilograms (350 lb) for 90 meters. This was a world record in 2005.
  • Plane Pull – He pulled a 40,000 kg (88,185 lb) plane for 25 meters in 36.67 seconds. This was a world record in 2008.
  • Truck Pull – He pulled a 24,000 kg (52,911 lb) truck for 20 meters in 26.05 seconds. This was a world record in 2003.
  • Farmer's Walk – He carried 150 kg (331 lb) in each hand for 60 meters in 19.90 seconds. This was a world record in 2006.

Mixed Martial Arts Career

In 2009, Mariusz Pudzianowski started a new chapter in his sports life. He signed with Konfrontacja Sztuk Walki (KSW), a Polish mixed martial arts (MMA) group.

Early Fights

Mariusz had his first MMA fight on 11 December 2009. He won against Marcin Najman in just 43 seconds! He used punches to win the fight.

On 7 May 2010, he won his second fight against Yusuke Kawaguchi. The judges decided he won after two rounds. Later that month, he fought Tim Sylvia, a former UFC champion. Mariusz lost this fight in the second round.

After that, Mariusz fought Eric Esch, also known as 'Butterbean'. Mariusz won by using ground and pound. He looked much slimmer for this fight, which helped his energy.

In May 2011, Mariusz fought James Thompson and lost. However, he trained hard and went to American Top Team in the USA to improve his skills.

Rematches and Wins

Mariusz had a rematch with James Thompson in November 2011. Mariusz won by decision, but the result was later changed to "No Contest" due to a judging mistake.

He then fought Bob Sapp on 12 May 2012. Mariusz won very quickly, in just 39 seconds, by TKO (Technical Knockout). He also won against Christos Piliafas in September 2012.

Mariusz fought Sean McCorkle in June 2013 and lost. But in a rematch in September, he won by decision. He also defeated Oli Thompson and Paweł Nastula in 2014.

In May 2015, Mariusz fought Rolles Gracie Jr. and won by knockout in the first round. This earned him a "Knockout of the Night" award.

Recent Fights

Mariusz continued to fight in KSW. He won against Paweł Mikołajuw in December 2016 and Tyberiusz Kowalczyk in May 2017. He also won against Jay Silva in October 2017.

He faced some tough opponents, including Karol Bedorf and Szymon Kołecki, and lost those fights.

Winning Streak and More Awards

Mariusz started a new winning streak in November 2019. He defeated Erko Jun by TKO. He then won against Nikola Milanović and Łukasz Jurkowski in 2021.

His fight with Serigne Ousmane Dia was rescheduled and Mariusz won by knockout in just 18 seconds! In May 2022, he fought former KSW Middleweight champion Michał Materla. Mariusz won by knockout in the first round and received another "Knockout of the Night" award.

His winning streak ended in December 2022 when he lost to Mamed Khalidov. In June 2023, he lost to Artur Szpilka. Mariusz is still competing and is scheduled to fight Eddie Hall in April 2025.

In 2008, Mariusz earned a master's degree in international relations. He also owns a school for bodyguards and has real estate. He also runs a truck cargo company called Pudzianowski Transport. He has said that sports are a hobby for him, and his businesses are his main source of income.

Music and TV

Mariusz is also a guest singer in a music group called Pudzian Band. His brother Krystian formed the band. They released their first song in 2006 and an album in 2009.

He has also appeared on TV shows. In 2008, he was on the Polish version of Dancing with the Stars and finished second. He was also on the singing show Just the Two of Us.

Mariusz Pudzianowski has a unique diet. He often eats chocolate, ice cream, or burgers. He once said, "I eat everything. I do not follow any particular diet. I eat anything I want, anytime I want."

He explained his daily diet:

  • Breakfast: 10 eggs and two to three pounds of bacon.
  • Between meals: Lots of candy bars for energy.
  • Lunch: A big meal of Polish pork chop, sauerkraut, and potatoes.
  • After workouts: Supplements and more chocolate.
  • Dinner: Meat like steaks, pork chops, or bacon, with sauerkraut and potatoes.
