Markout is a small, quiet place in Kaufman County, Texas. It's known as an "unincorporated community." This means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of the larger county. In 2000, about 80 people lived there. Markout is also located within the big Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex area, which is a busy part of Texas.
A Look Back: Markout's History
Markout has a simple but interesting history. A long time ago, there was a church called Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. For a while, it changed its name to Markout Baptist Church. Then, in 1980, it went back to being called Pleasant Grove. From the mid-1960s all the way through the year 2000, the community of Markout had about 80 people living there.
Where is Markout?
Markout is located in the northwestern part of Kaufman County. You can find it on Farm to Market Road 740. It's about 14 miles (or 23 kilometers) northwest of the town of Kaufman.
Education in Markout
Education has been important in Markout for a long time. In 1884, there was a school called East Fork Academy. Later, in 1947, this school joined with the Forney Independent School District. The local Baptist church continued to hold services in the old school building. Today, students from Markout still attend schools in the Forney Independent School District. Younger students go to Johnson Elementary School in Forney.
