How the Region Was Formed
The Marrakesh–Safi region was created in September 2015. It was formed by joining an older region called Marrakech–Tensift–El Haouz with two provinces. These provinces were Safi and Youssoufia. They used to be part of another region called Doukkala-Abda. This change helped to organize Morocco's regions better.

In September 2023, the Marrakesh–Safi region experienced a strong earthquake. This natural event had a magnitude of 6.9. It caused a lot of damage and sadly affected many people.
