Marranunggu facts for kids
The Marranunggu are an Aboriginal Australian people who live in the Northern Territory. They are also known for their unique language.
Their Language
The Marranunggu people speak a language called Marranunggu. This language is part of a larger group known as the Marranji languages. Other languages in this group include Menhthe and Emmi. All of these are part of the Western Daly languages, which are spoken in the region.
Their Traditional Lands
The Marranunggu people have traditional lands located south of the Daly River in the Northern Territory.
A famous researcher named Norman Tindale studied Aboriginal lands. He estimated that the Marranunggu's traditional territory covered about 650 square kilometres (250 square miles). This area was around the Dilke Range and stretched northeast towards the swampy areas near the Daly River.
