The Marriott Theatre is a popular place for live shows in Lincolnshire, Illinois. It is known as a top regional theatre in the Chicago area. This theatre is connected to the Marriott Lincolnshire Resort. Each year, it puts on about five musicals. These shows are performed in a special way called theatre in the round. This means the stage is in the middle, and the audience sits all around it. The theatre also creates special shows for younger audiences. A small, live orchestra plays music for all the performances.

History of the Marriott Theatre

The Marriott Theatre first opened its doors in December 1975. Since then, it has put on more than 170 musicals. Today, Peter Blair is the Executive Producer, and Peter Marston Sullivan is the Artistic Director. This theatre has more people who subscribe to its shows than any other musical theatre in the country. This means many people buy tickets for all their shows each season!

Over the years, more than 3,000 professional actors have performed at the Marriott Theatre. They have presented classic American musicals, brand-new shows, and fresh versions of older musicals. The theatre is a key place for new Broadway shows to start before going to other parts of the country. Many famous musicals had their first regional performances here. These include A Chorus Line, Miss Saigon, Cats, and The Producers.

The Marriott Theatre is a founding member of the National Alliance for Musical Theatre. This group helps artists create new plays and musicals. Because of this, the theatre has premiered many new shows. Some of these were "American Premieres" (first time in the U.S.) or "World Premieres" (first time anywhere). For example, Matador later played in London's West End. Annie Warbucks started a national tour and opened in New York City.

The Marriott's Theatre for Young Audiences creates special shows for kids. They have presented over 45 productions. These include new stories and classic fairy tales. Every year, these musicals introduce more than 100,000 children to the magic of live theatre. In total, the Marriott Theatre brings over 400,000 people to Lincolnshire every year.
