Marshall Ford is a small community in Travis County, Texas, United States. It is called an "unincorporated community" because it doesn't have its own local government like a city does. Marshall Ford is part of the larger Greater Austin area.

The Story of Marshall Ford

For many years, people living in the western part of Travis County needed a way to get to Austin. They used a shallow spot in the Colorado River to cross it. This crossing was called a "ford." Marshall Ford became a busy trading spot where people bought and sold things like wood.

Building Mansfield Dam

In 1934, the Lower Colorado River Authority started building a very important structure. They built the Mansfield Dam in this area. This huge dam helps control floods and is a key part of how water is managed in the Colorado River system.

The Post Office

Marshall Ford even had its own post office for a while. Jack S. Beauchamp was the first postmaster. However, the post office closed in 1942. After that, people in Marshall Ford received their mail through Austin.
