Marshy Point Nature Center is a super cool place in Middle River, Maryland. It's a special spot where you can learn all about nature! The center is run by Baltimore County, Maryland and a helpful group called the Marshy Point Nature Center Council.
This amazing nature center first opened its doors in 2000. It's built right next to the beautiful Dundee and Saltpeter Creeks. You can visit the center from 9 AM to 5 PM. They even share a list of fun activities and programs every few months!
Marshy Point Park is huge, covering about 500 acres. It has 8 miles of trails where you can hike and explore. There's also a boat dock and a place to launch canoes. Inside the center and all around the park, you'll find exhibits that let you get up close with local wildlife. You'll also learn why the Chesapeake Bay and its natural areas are so important.
A Look Back: Marshy Point's Story
The idea for Marshy Point Nature Center started a long time ago. Work to build the center began on October 20, 1998. A big grant of $2.7 million helped make it possible!
In the year 2000, the state of Maryland bought the land for the trails behind the center. They spent $2 million to make sure these natural areas would be protected. The nature center officially opened its doors to everyone on May 1, 2000.
Later, in 2005, more money was approved to make the center even bigger. About $300,000 was used to add 30% more space to the building. This meant more room for exhibits and activities for visitors like you!
