Marsimik La is a very high mountain pass located in the Himalayas in northern India. It sits in the Chang-Chemno Range in Kashmir. A mountain pass is like a natural pathway or gap through mountains, making it easier to travel from one side to another.

Marsimik La is incredibly high, reaching an elevation of 5,582 meters (about 18,314 feet) above sea level. That's taller than many famous mountains!

Exploring Marsimik La

Marsimik La has a road that goes over it. However, this road is not in good condition. It's very rough and challenging to drive on. Only special vehicles, like strong off-road trucks, can usually make it across this pass. Regular cars cannot easily travel here.

If the road were smoother, Marsimik La would be the highest road pass in Kashmir. But some reports suggest there might be even higher roads in Tibet, a region nearby.

Where is Marsimik La Located?

Marsimik La is found about 16 kilometers (10 miles) northeast of the famous Pangong Lake. This lake is known for its beautiful blue waters.

The pass is also on a direct route to an area called Kongka La. This area is about 42 kilometers (26 miles) further northeast. Kongka La is close to the Line of Actual Control (LAC) between China and India. The LAC is like a border line that separates the areas controlled by each country. Marsimik La itself is about four kilometers west of a high ridge that forms part of this control line.
