Early Life and Career
Marta Higueras was born in Madrid in 1964. She started her career working in courts in Madrid. Later, she became a leader in the General Council of the Judiciary, which is an important group that helps run the justice system in Spain. She worked there for five years.
In the Basque Country, she advised on justice matters. In August 2009, she became the Director of Justice and Public Administration. She held this role until January 2013. During this time, she was also part of a special group that focused on children and teenagers in the Basque Country.
Before joining the City Council of Madrid, she worked for the Tribunal de Cuentas. This is a court that checks how public money is spent. She was a secretary there and also a member of the Equality Commission from 2013 to 2015.
Working with Ahora Madrid
In May 2015, Marta Higueras ran for the City Council of Madrid. She was number seven on the list for the political group called Ahora Madrid.
Many people believe that Higueras was a very trusted person for Manuela Carmena. Manuela Carmena was the Mayor of Madrid at the time. Higueras and Carmena had known each other since 1992. They worked together in the courts and have been close friends ever since. From June 2015, Marta Higueras served as the First Deputy Mayor of Madrid. She also led the Department of Equality, Social Rights, and Employment.
