Marta Fran Kauffman (born September 21, 1956) is an American writer and producer for television. She is most famous for co-creating the popular TV show Friends for NBC. She worked on Friends with her good friend, David Crane. They were also executive producers for the show.

Marta Kauffman and David Crane also created the HBO series Dream On. Later, Marta Kauffman co-created the Netflix series Grace and Frankie without David Crane.

Early Life and School

Marta Kauffman grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia. She was part of a Jewish family. She went to Marple Newtown High School. There, she loved acting and even directed a school play called "Our Town" in 1974.

After high school, Marta Kauffman studied theater at Brandeis University. She earned her degree in 1978. She also learned acting at The Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theater in New York City. Later, she moved to Sherman Oaks, which is a town near Los Angeles.

Her Career in TV

Marta Kauffman started a production company called Okay Goodnight. She ran it with her partners, Robbie Rowe Tollin and Hannah KS Canter. In 2020, their company made a deal with Fox 21 Television Studios. This deal means they will work together to create new TV shows, starting with a show based on a book called The Dreamers.
