Marta Portal Nicolás (born August 10, 1930 – died August 26, 2016) was an important Spanish writer, critic, journalist, and university professor. She was part of a group of writers known as the "Generation of '50." This group included many important Spanish authors who started writing around the 1950s. Marta Portal also won a very famous award called the Premio Planeta de Novela.

Marta Portal's Career
Education and Teaching
Marta Portal was a very educated person. She earned a degree in philosophy and literature, which means she studied big ideas about life and how stories are made. She also got a PhD in Information Sciences. This high level of education helped her become a professor.
She taught about Hispano-American literature at the Complutense University of Madrid. This university is one of the biggest and oldest in Spain. Teaching there meant she shared her knowledge with many students.
Journalism and Writing
Besides teaching, Marta Portal was also a journalist. She wrote news articles and reviews about books and other literature. She also shared her opinions in columns for newspapers like ABC and El Alcázar.
As a novelist, Marta Portal wrote about important topics. She often explored the education of women and the different rules that sometimes applied to men and women in society. Her books made people think about these issues.
Awards and Recognition
In 1966, Marta Portal won the famous Premio Planeta de Novela for her novel A tientas y a ciegas. This is one of the most important literary awards in Spain.
