Martell Covington is an American politician. He is a member of the Democratic Party. He served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. He represented the 24th district in Allegheny County. In 2022, he won a special election. He took over the seat from Ed Gainey. Ed Gainey became the Mayor of Pittsburgh in 2021.

About Martell Covington's Early Life and Education
Martell Covington grew up in Homewood. This is a neighborhood in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He went to Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh. Later, he studied at Howard University.
Community Work and Leadership
For over 12 years, Martell worked for the Community Empowerment Association. This group helps people in Pittsburgh. He became the Assistant Director of Youth & Family Services. He helped young people and families. Today, he leads their board of directors.
Martell also worked for State Senator Jay Costa. He helped with important projects in Pittsburgh. He was part of a team for the Oakland Business Improvement District. He also advised on the Oakland Plan. In 2021, he was elected Vice President. This was for the Young Democrats of Allegheny County. He also joined the Black Equity Coalition's Policy Team.
Serving in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives
Martell Covington worked as an aide for Jay Costa. Jay Costa is a member of the Pennsylvania Senate. In April 2022, Martell was chosen by the Allegheny County Democratic Committee. They nominated him for a special election. This election was to fill the seat left by Ed Gainey.
Winning the Special Election
Martell Covington won the special election. He was sworn into office on April 26, 2022. He became the representative for the 24th district. However, he later lost his bid for re-election. He lost to La'Tasha Mayes in the Democratic primary on May 17, 2022.
