Martell Covington is an American politician. He served as a member of the Democratic Party in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. He represented the 24th district in Allegheny County. He won a special election in 2022. This allowed him to take over from Ed Gainey. Mr. Gainey was elected Mayor of Pittsburgh in 2021.

Early Life and Education
Martell Covington grew up in Homewood. This is a neighborhood in Pittsburgh. For over 12 years, he worked for the Community Empowerment Association. This group helps people in Pittsburgh. He became the Assistant Director of Youth & Family Services. Now, he leads their board of directors.
Covington also worked for State Senate Democratic Leader Jay Costa. He helped with important projects for the Pittsburgh area. He was part of a team for the Oakland Business Improvement District's plan. He also advised on the Oakland Plan. In 2021, he became Vice President for the Young Democrats of Allegheny County. He is also part of the Black Equity Coalition's Policy Team. He went to Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh. He also graduated from Howard University.
Serving in the Pennsylvania House
Martell Covington worked as an aide for Jay Costa. Mr. Costa is a member of the Pennsylvania Senate. In April 2022, the Democratic Party chose Covington for a special election. This election was to replace Ed Gainey in the Pennsylvania House. Covington won this election. He officially started his job on April 26, 2022. He served until January 3, 2023. He later ran for re-election but lost to La'Tasha Mayes in the Democratic primary on May 17, 2022.
