Park History
From Airport to Park
The Martha Lake Airport was a private airport. It was run by Ed Hauter, Sr. and his family. They bought the farm where the airport was located in 1955. Over time, more and more homes were built around the airport.
The airport closed in 1998 after Dorothy Hauter passed away.
Creating the Park
Snohomish County bought the land from the Hauter family in 2000. They paid $3.6 million for it. The family chose to sell to the county instead of to real estate developers.
Plans for the new park were started in 2004. The county approved these plans in June 2008. Construction began in February 2009. The park officially opened on October 9, 2010, with a special ceremony.
