Marthe Blackburn, born Morisset (1916 – 1991), was a talented Canadian writer from Quebec. She wrote scripts for television shows and movies.

Marthe Blackburn started her career writing for Radio-Canada, which is a big Canadian TV network. Later, she wrote films for the National Film Board of Canada, an organization that makes documentaries and animated films.

She was best known for working closely with film director Anne Claire Poirier. Marthe Blackburn and Anne Claire Poirier were nominated for a Genie Award in 1980. This award was for writing the best original movie script for their film A Scream from Silence.

Marthe Blackburn's Creative Works

Marthe Blackburn wrote many different things. She wrote a short play called "Le retour de l’âge." This play was part of a bigger theater project called La nef des sorcières, which means "The Witches' Ship." She worked on this project with other famous writers like Luce Guilbeault and Marie-Claire Blais.

She also helped direct a documentary film called À qui appartient ce gage?. In 1980, she even had a small acting role in the movie Cordélia.

Marthe Blackburn was married to a composer named Maurice Blackburn. A composer is someone who writes music. She helped him write the libretto (the words) for his opera called Une mesure de silence. An opera is a play where most of the words are sung.

Marthe Blackburn was also the mother of Esther Rochon, who became a well-known science fiction writer.
