Martin Compston is a Scottish actor and a former professional football player. He is famous for playing Detective Inspector Steve Arnott in the popular BBC drama Line of Duty. He has also appeared in many other movies and TV shows, including Sweet Sixteen, The Wee Man, and The Nest.

Early Life and School

Martin Compston was born on May 8, 1984, in Greenock, Scotland. He grew up there with his older brother. For his education, Martin went to St Columba's High School in the nearby town of Gourock.

From Football to Film

A Promising Football Career

Before he became an actor, Martin was a talented footballer. As a teenager, he played for the youth team at Aberdeen. After finishing school, he signed a professional contract with his local team, Greenock Morton.

During the 2001–2002 season, Compston played in two first-team games for Greenock Morton as a substitute. After his time with Morton, he played for a short while with a junior team called Greenock Juniors.

Becoming an Actor

Compston had never acted before when he auditioned for a movie called Sweet Sixteen. The film was being shot near his hometown, and he won the main role. The movie was a big hit at the famous Cannes Film Festival, and Compston quickly became well-known in Scotland.
