Martin Widmark (born 19 March 1961) is a popular Swedish writer and former teacher. He is best known for his exciting mystery books for children. His most famous series is about the detective agency called The Whodunit Detective Agency, known as "LasseMaja junior mysteries" in Sweden.
These books have been translated from Swedish into many different languages, reaching kids all over the world. Some of his books have even been turned into movies, board games, theater plays, and video games in Sweden!
About Martin Widmark
Martin Widmark was born in a place called Sturefors and grew up in Linköping, Sweden. Later, in the 1980s, he moved to Stockholm, where he lives today. Before becoming a full-time writer, he worked as a teacher. This experience helped him understand what young readers enjoy.
Martin's Books and Stories
Martin Widmark has written over one hundred books for children and young people. He is one of Sweden's most loved children's authors, with almost 10 million books sold! His stories are enjoyed in nearly 40 different languages.
His first book was published in 2000. Since then, he has created many popular series. The most famous is The Whodunit Detective Agency (LasseMaja junior mysteries). This series follows two young detectives, Lasse and Maja, as they solve mysteries in their town.
Helping Kids Read
Martin Widmark cares a lot about helping young people become better readers. He started a special project called "A Reading Class" (En läsande klass) in 2012. He worked with publishers and the Junibacken Foundation to make this happen.
He has visited more than a thousand schools and classrooms to talk about reading. In August 2014, the Swedish government gave him a special award called the Illis Quorum medal. This award recognized his amazing books and his efforts to encourage children and young people to read.
