The Martin and Kibby Blocks are two old buildings in downtown Lima, Ohio, United States. They were built in 1884. These buildings are made of brick and show off the Victorian Gothic style.
Both buildings are rectangular and have three stories. They are topped with sloped roofs made of asphalt. You can see cool decorations on them. These include brick columns (called pilasters) next to the main doors. There are also stone frames (called lintels) around the windows. Fancy brick patterns (called corbelling) are placed between the supports.
History of the Blocks
Building During Lima's Boom
The Martin and Kibby Blocks were built in 1884. This was a very exciting time for Lima. Oil was discovered nearby, which made the city grow super fast!
Lots of important business buildings went up then. The Martin and Kibby Blocks were among them. Many other big shops and offices were built on South Main Street. This street was close to the city's main square.
National Recognition
In 1982, the Martin and Kibby Blocks were added to the National Register of Historic Places. This is a special list for buildings that are important. They were recognized for their amazing and historic architecture.
Many other buildings in Lima were added to this list at the same time. Six more buildings on South Main Street were included. They were part of a group called the "Lima Multiple Resource Area." This group included many downtown buildings important for their design.
