The Marulta people spoke a language called Marrulha. This language was a type of Karnic language, which is a group of languages spoken by Indigenous Australians in central Australia. Marrulha was very similar to the Mithaka language, and it had several different ways of being spoken, known as dialects.

Their Traditional Lands

The Marulta people lived around Lake Barrolka in Queensland. Their traditional country covered a large area, estimated to be about 9,583 square kilometers (3,700 square miles). This land stretched south to Lake Yamma Yamma and west towards the Beal Range. To the northeast, their territory reached close to Opalville and Cooper Creek. A researcher named Norman Tindale helped map and understand the traditional lands of many Indigenous groups, including the Marulta.
