Playing for Clubs
Marvin Chávez is known by his nickname "el hijo del viento," which means the son of the wind. He started his professional football career in Honduras. He played for teams like Victoria and Marathón.
In August 2009, Chávez moved to the United States. He joined FC Dallas in Major League Soccer (MLS) on a loan. During the 2010 season, he became a very important player for FC Dallas. He helped his team reach the MLS Cup final that year. On November 21, 2010, he played for 105 minutes in the MLS Cup 2010 match. His team, FC Dallas, lost to the Colorado Rapids in that final.
Chávez continued to play well in the 2011 MLS season. He was even named to the MLS Team of the Week several times. This happened after he scored goals against teams like Real Salt Lake and the New England Revolution. He also earned this honor after a great game against the New York Red Bulls.
On December 16, 2011, Chávez was traded to the San Jose Earthquakes. He had a fantastic season in 2012 with San Jose. He played in 27 league games, scoring 3 goals and making 13 assists. His help led his new team to win the 2012 Supporters Shield. This award goes to the team with the best regular season record.
His time in San Jose ended on January 7, 2014. He was traded to the Colorado Rapids for his former FC Dallas teammate, Atiba Harris. However, Colorado was not a good fit for Chávez. He played only 39 minutes for the club. On May 8, 2014, he was traded again, this time to Chivas USA. This trade was in exchange for another player, Luke Moore.
On February 26, 2015, Chávez signed with the NASL team, San Antonio Scorpions. He played 27 matches for the Scorpions. The club stopped operating in December 2015. In February 2016, Chávez signed with a new NASL team, Rayo OKC.
Playing for His Country
Marvin Chávez also played for his national team, Honduras. He made his first appearance for Honduras in August 2006. This was in a friendly match against Venezuela.
By April 2015, he had played in 48 international games for Honduras. He scored four goals for his country during this time. He represented Honduras in many important tournaments. These included FIFA World Cup qualification matches. He also played in the 2009 and 2011 UNCAF Nations Cups. Chávez also participated in the 2009 and 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cups. His career for Honduras also included playing in the biggest tournament of all, the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Personal Life

In January 2013, Marvin Chávez received his U.S. green card. This special status meant he was considered a domestic player for MLS teams. This made it easier for clubs to sign him.
