Early Life and Family

Mary Davidson was born in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, in 1865. She grew up in a town called Aboyne. Mary came from a large, well-known local family and was one of ten children.

Painting Journeys and Art Career

Mary loved to paint landscapes. She painted many scenes in her home country of Scotland. She also traveled to France and painted there. In 1936, Mary visited India. During this trip, she created a series of paintings of a mosque in Kohat. Kohat is now part of modern-day Pakistan.

Mary lived in Edinburgh for many years. For a long time, she paused her art career. She did this to care for her parents. After they passed away, she started painting again. Sadly, her eyesight began to fail, which cut short her painting career.

Exhibitions and Recognition

Mary Davidson's art was shown in many important places. She had twenty-four paintings displayed at the Royal Scottish Academy. These exhibitions took place between 1906 and 1936.

In 1936, she became a member of the Royal Watercolour Society. This society showed about 44 of her artworks over the years. Mary also regularly exhibited her paintings with the Aberdeen Artists Society. Her work was also shown at the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts.
