Early Life and Education
Mary Katrantzou was born in Athens, Greece. Her mother was an interior designer, and her father studied textile engineering. This background likely helped her love for design and fabrics.
In 2003, Mary moved to the United States. She first studied architecture at the Rhode Island School of Design. Later, she changed her focus to fashion. She moved to London to study at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. She earned her bachelor's degree there in 2005. She then completed her master's degree in 2008.
Starting Her Fashion Career

While she was still a student, Mary Katrantzou sold some of her unique prints to the fashion brand Bill Blass. After getting her bachelor's degree, she decided to focus on fashion prints. She had been designing prints for home interiors before this.
In 2006, she worked with designer Sophia Kokosalaki. This helped her create a strong collection of designs. This collection was for her master's course in fashion textiles at Central Saint Martins.
Her First Big Show
In February 2008, Mary Katrantzou's designs opened the Saint Martins MA Fashion show. This was part of London Fashion Week. Her collection was even nominated for important awards.
Her final show in 2008 really showed off her unique style. She used a technique called trompe l'oeil. This means "trick the eye" in French. She printed huge, fake jewelry designs onto dresses. These designs made it look like people were wearing giant necklaces. In real life, these necklaces would be too heavy to wear! She also made real jewelry from wood and metal that looked exactly like her prints.
Growing Her Brand
Mary Katrantzou's first full collection was for Autumn/Winter 2008. It was shown at London Fashion Week. She received special support from the British Fashion Council. This support lasted for six seasons.
Her first ready-to-wear collection came out in February 2009. Even though it was a small collection of only nine dresses, many stores wanted to sell her designs. These included famous shops like Browns and Colette.
Today, her collections are sold in over 200 fashion stores. These stores are in 47 different countries around the world. She has also worked with big brands. In 2011, she created a collection for Topshop. It sold out very quickly! Her work has been featured in top magazines like Vogue and Grazia.
Collaborations and Milestones
In 2012, Mary Katrantzou worked with Longchamp. She designed a special collection of bags and totes for them.
In 2014, she announced a long-term partnership with Adidas. She designed both clothing and shoes for the sports brand.
In 2018, Mary Katrantzou celebrated a big milestone. Her fashion label turned 10 years old! She showed her tenth-anniversary collection at London Fashion Week. The show was held at The Roundhouse in London. It featured her well-known vivid prints.
At the end of 2019, Mary Katrantzou went back to her hometown of Athens. She showed her Spring/Summer 2020 collection there. This show was special. It celebrated 30 years of ELPIDA, a group that helps children with cancer.
In April 2024, Mary Katrantzou took on a new role. She became the first creative director for leather goods and accessories at Bulgari. Bulgari is a very famous luxury brand.
