Mary Sackville, Countess of Dorset (born Lady Mary Compton; 1669 – 6 August 1691) was a noblewoman from the 17th century. She worked at the royal court of Queen Mary II. Mary was known as one of the "Hampton Court Beauties." These were women painted by Sir Godfrey Kneller for Queen Mary. She also served as a special helper to the Queen, called a Lady of the Bedchamber.

About Mary Sackville
Her Family and Marriage
Mary Compton was born in 1669. Her father was James Compton, 3rd Earl of Northampton. Her mother was Mary Noel. Mary Noel was the daughter of Baptist Noel, 3rd Viscount Campden.
In 1685, Mary married Charles Sackville, 6th Earl of Dorset. After their marriage, they lived at a place called Copt Hall. This home was located in Waltham Abbey, in Essex, England.
Her Early Death
Sadly, Mary Sackville died young. She passed away in 1691 when she was only 22 years old. Her death was caused by smallpox. Smallpox was a very serious and often deadly disease during that time.
Her Children
Mary and her husband, Charles, had two children together.
Lionel Sackville
Their first child was Lionel Sackville, 1st Duke of Dorset. He was born in 1688. Lionel later became a very important person. In 1720, he was given the special title of Duke of Dorset. He lived a long life and passed away in 1765 at the age of 77.
Lady Mary Sackville
Their second child was Lady Mary Sackville. She was also born in 1688. Lady Mary became the first wife of Henry Somerset, who was the 2nd Duke of Beaufort. Not much is known about whether she had any children of her own. She died in 1705.
