Marysville is a small, unincorporated community located in Oregon Township, which is part of Clark County, Indiana. An unincorporated community is a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a city or town with its own local government.
The Story of Marysville
Marysville was first planned out in 1871. It had 40 building lots along the railroad tracks. The community was named after a local person, Mary Kimberlain.
The Big Tornado of 2012
On March 2, 2012, Marysville faced a very powerful tornado. It was an EF-4 tornado, which means it was extremely strong. The tornado caused a lot of damage to the community.
A local official said that the town looked "completely gone" after the storm. The Marysville Christian Church, which was built in 1891, was moved four feet off its foundation by the strong winds.
The pastor of the church, Bob Priest, shared a hopeful message. He said that the church is more than just a building. He hoped to rebuild it even "bigger and better." Many of the 40 to 50 houses in Marysville were badly damaged. Some could not be repaired at all.
