María Luisa Dehesa Gómez Farías (born June 30, 1912 – died March 11, 2009) was a pioneering Mexican architect. She is famous for being the first Mexican woman to ever graduate with an architecture degree. For almost 50 years, she worked in Mexico City, mostly designing homes and apartment buildings.

Her Life and Education
María Luisa Dehesa Gómez Farías was born on June 30, 1912, in Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico. Her parents were Ramón Dehesa and María Luisa Gómez Farías y Canedo. Her family had a history of important people in Mexico.
In 1933, María Luisa started studying at the Academia de San Carlos. This was the National School of Architecture at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. In her class, there were 113 students, but only five of them were women. The women even had to study in a separate workshop from the men.
Becoming an Architect
María Luisa graduated in 1937. This was a very important moment because she became the first Mexican woman to earn a degree in architecture. Her final project, called a thesis, was about "Artillery Barracks Type." It was so good that the judges gave it an "honorable mention." She officially became a professional architect in 1939.
Her Career and Achievements
After finishing her studies, María Luisa married Manuel Millán. They had four children together. She started working for the Public Works Department in Mexico City. She worked there for nearly 50 years!
Designing Buildings
Her main job was designing different types of buildings. She mostly created plans for single-family homes and apartment buildings. Her work helped shape parts of Mexico City.
Awards and Recognition
In 1974, María Luisa received a special award called the Ruth Rivera Prize. She shared this award with Concepción Mendizábal Mendoza, who was the first Mexican female civil engineer. This showed how important her work was.
In 2006, the College of Architects of Mexico City honored her for all her contributions to architecture. This was a big recognition of her long and successful career.
Her Memoirs
María Luisa also shared her life story in a book called Los Años Valientes (The Brave Years). Her daughter, Elizabeth Millán de Guerra, who is a graphic designer, created the pictures for the book. María Luisa Dehesa passed away in Mexico City in 2009.
