María Seoane (born January 25, 1948 – died December 27, 2023) was an important Argentine journalist, writer, and filmmaker. She was also an economist. María Seoane won many awards for her work. She wrote several books about important political events in Argentina's history. From 2009 to 2015, she was the director of LRA Radio Nacional, a big national radio station.

María Seoane's Career in Journalism
María Seoane studied Economics at the University of Buenos Aires. She had a long and successful career in journalism.
She worked as an editor for several well-known newspapers and magazines:
- She was the national political editor for El Periodista de Buenos Aires.
- She also worked as the national political editor for the newspaper Sur.
- Later, she became the editor-in-chief for the Argentine part of Noticias magazine.
- She was also the director of the Zona supplement for the famous newspaper Clarín.
María Seoane also wrote articles for international publications, including:
- The Mexican magazine Di.
- The Mexican newspapers Uno Más Uno and El Universal.
- The Turin magazine Nueva Sociedad.
Teaching and Consulting Work
María Seoane was also a teacher. She taught journalism at the University of San Andrés in Buenos Aires. She also taught at Columbia University in the United States.
She worked as a consultant for the OAS. In this role, she wrote reports about freedom of speech for the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.
María Seoane's Involvement in Public Life
María Seoane was part of the Journalists' Association in the 1990s. This group brought together important journalists.
She was also involved in public media. During the government of Néstor Kirchner, she directed the magazine Caras y Caretas. In 2009, when Cristina Fernández was president, María Seoane became the Executive Director of LRA Radio Nacional. She left this position in December 2015.
She was a member of a group called COMUNA. This group worked to support democratic communication, meaning open and fair ways for people to share information.

María Seoane's Work in Film
María Seoane's first book, The Night of Pencils, was made into a movie. The film, called La noche de los lápices, was directed by Héctor Olivera.
She also directed her own documentary films:
- Gelbard, historia secreta del último burgués nacional (2006), which she co-directed with Carlos Castro. This film was about former Economy Minister José Ber Gelbard.
- The animated film Eva from Argentina (2011). This movie told the stories of important historical figures like Eva Perón and Rodolfo Walsh.
Awards and Recognition
María Seoane received many awards for her excellent work:
- In 1991, her book Todo o nada was chosen as the Book of the Year by Argentine critics.
- She won the Konex Award in 1994 for her biographies and memoirs.
- In 1998, she received the King of Spain Prize . This was for her important journalistic investigation published in Clarín about the 1976 military coup.
- She received the Julio Cortázar Award from the Argentine Book Chamber in 2000.
- The Henry Moore Foundation gave her a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2000.
- In 2002, she won the Rodolfo Walsh Award from the National University of La Plata's Faculty of Journalism and Communication.
- She also received the Al Maestro con Cariño Award in 2003.
