Koda's Early Football Career
Masakazu Koda was born in Ehime Prefecture, Japan, on September 12, 1969. After finishing high school, he started his professional football journey. In 1988, he joined a club called Mazda. This club later became known as Sanfrecce Hiroshima.
During his time at Mazda, Koda played as a midfielder. However, he did not get to play in many matches. He worked hard to improve his skills on the field.
Playing for Vissel Kobe
In 1995, Koda moved to Vissel Kobe. This club was part of the Japan Football League at the time. At Vissel Kobe, Koda changed his playing position. He became a "right side back," which is a type of defender.
This change was very good for him. He became a regular player, meaning he played in most of the team's matches. In 1997, Vissel Kobe had a great season. They finished in second place in their league. This success helped the club get promoted to the J1 League, which is Japan's top football league. However, in 1998, Koda did not play as much for the team.
Joining Yokohama FC
In 1999, Koda moved to a new club called Yokohama FC. This team was also in the Japan Football League (JFL). Koda played a lot for Yokohama FC. He helped the club win the league championship for two years in a row. They won in 1999 and again in 2000.
Because they won these championships, Yokohama FC was promoted to the J2 League. This was another step up in Japanese football. However, in 2001, Koda's playing time decreased again.
Retirement with Ehime FC
In 2002, Masakazu Koda decided to move to his local club, Ehime FC. This team was also in the JFL. He played for Ehime FC for two seasons.
