Masaru Akiba (秋葉 勝, Akiba Masaru, born February 19, 1984) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a midfielder during his career. Akiba is well-known for spending most of his playing time with the Montedio Yamagata club.

Masaru Akiba was born in Kaminoyama, Japan, on February 19, 1984. He started his professional football career with Montedio Yamagata in 2002. This club played in the J2 League, which is Japan's second-highest professional football league.
Early Career at Montedio Yamagata
When Masaru joined Montedio Yamagata, he quickly became an important player. He often played as a defensive midfielder. By 2006, he was a regular starter for the team.
In 2008, Montedio Yamagata finished second in the J2 League. This big achievement meant the club was promoted to the J1 League for the first time ever. The J1 League is Japan's top professional football league.
Challenges and Successes
After being promoted, Montedio Yamagata faced tough competition in the J1 League. The team struggled and was moved back down to the J2 League at the end of the 2011 season.
However, Montedio Yamagata had another strong season in 2014. They finished sixth in the J2 League and were promoted to the J1 League again. In the same year, the team also reached the final of the 2014 Emperor's Cup, a major football tournament in Japan, finishing in second place.
Moving to New Teams
Even though Montedio Yamagata was promoted to the J1 League again, Masaru Akiba decided to move to a different club in 2015. He joined Zweigen Kanazawa, another team in the J2 League. He played regularly for Zweigen Kanazawa that year.
In 2016, Masaru moved to FC Gifu, another J2 League club. However, he did not play any games for them. Later in July 2016, he returned to Zweigen Kanazawa. He played often for them during the rest of 2016.
Retirement from Football
In 2017, Masaru Akiba did not play as much for Zweigen Kanazawa. He decided to retire from professional football at the end of the 2017 season. Over his career, Masaru Akiba played in 424 league matches and scored 30 goals.
