Mason Lake is a beautiful natural lake located in Mason County, Washington, United States. It stretches out south of the town of Belfair, Washington. This long lake was named after Charles H. Mason. He was the very first secretary of the Washington Territory. The lake sits on a narrow strip of land called an isthmus. This land connects the Kitsap Peninsula to the mainland, between the Hood Canal and Pickering Passage. A smaller lake, Benson Lake, is right next to its eastern side.

Mason Lake is quite large, covering about 1,000 acres. It stretches for about four miles (5 miles). The deepest part of the lake is 90 feet. However, its average depth is 48 feet. The shoreline around the lake is about 10.9 miles long. Mason Lake sits 194 feet above sea level. It is the second largest freshwater lake in Mason County. The biggest is Lake Cushman, which was made by people.
Life Around the Lake
More than a thousand people live around Mason Lake all year long. This area used to be mainly a place for summer vacations. The lake is well-known for fun water activities. These include power boating, jet skiing, and water skiing.
Public Access and Activities
A county park provides a nice place for picnics. It also has a boat launch for people to put their boats in the water. Swimming is mostly done from private homes or special private parks. The boat launch has only one lane. It is also on a steep slope. Sometimes, the winches used to pull boats can get stuck.
Surrounding Area
The community around Mason Lake is located between two other areas. To the east are Grapeview and Harstine Island. To the west is Twanoh State Park. Much of the land around Mason Lake is used for growing trees. These trees are harvested for wood at different times.
