History of Masseyville

Masseyville is located along Tennessee State Route 225. This community has an interesting past! It was first part of McNairy County. However, things changed in 1882 when Chester County was officially created. Masseyville then became a part of this new county.

The community got its name from an early settler named Bill Massey. He was one of the first people to live there. Masseyville even had its own post office! It opened in 1884, helping people send and receive mail. The post office served the community for many years before it was closed in 1915.
