Matanchén is a beautiful bay and a small town located in Nayarit, Mexico. You can find it just south of the town of San Blas on Mexico's Pacific coast. Matanchén is especially famous for its amazing waves, which are perfect for surfing!

One of the villages and surfing spots in Matanchén Bay is called Las Islitas. It's known worldwide because the Guinness Book of World Records says it has the "World's Longest Surfable Wave." This incredible wave can be as long as 5,700 feet (about 1,737 meters)! Imagine riding a wave for that long! Surfers who know the area well say that waves about a quarter to half a mile long are quite common here. This means you can have a very long and fun ride on your surfboard.

Matanchén's Ancient Past

Matanchén is not just about surfing; it also has a very old history. It is one of the earliest places where people settled in Western Mexico. Scientists and historians have found evidence that people lived here a very long time ago, around 2000 to 2100 BCE.

What is BCE?

BCE stands for "Before Common Era." It's a way to count years backward from the year 1. So, 2000-2100 BCE means that people lived in Matanchén about 4,000 years ago! This makes Matanchén an important place for understanding the history of ancient cultures in Mexico.
