Matteo Paro's Football Journey
Matteo Paro started his football career playing for famous Italian clubs. He was known for his skills as a midfielder.
Early Days at Juventus
Paro began his youth career at Juventus, one of Italy's biggest football clubs. He made his first appearance in Italy's top league, Serie A, on May 17, 2003. This was a big moment for him, even though his team lost 2-1 to Reggina.
Moving to Chievo and Siena
After his time at Juventus, Paro moved to Chievo in 2003. Juventus sold half of his contract to Chievo. This is sometimes called a "joint-ownership deal" where two clubs share a player's contract.
In 2005, Juventus bought back Paro's full contract. However, he was then sold to Siena in another joint-ownership deal. This meant he continued to play for different teams while still being partly owned by Juventus.
Return to Juventus
In 2006, something unusual happened in Italian football: Juventus was moved down to a lower league called Serie B. Juventus then bought back Paro's full contract from Siena.
Matteo Paro made history by scoring Juventus's first-ever goal in Serie B. This happened during a 1-1 draw against Rimini on September 9, 2006.
Playing for Genoa and Other Clubs
In the summer of 2007, Paro was sold to Genoa in another joint-ownership deal. He played for Genoa for several years.
During his time at Genoa, he also went on loan to other teams. In July 2009, he joined Bari for a season. Later, in January 2010, he was loaned to Piacenza.
Time at Vicenza
In the summer of 2010, Paro went on loan to Vicenza. He stayed with Vicenza for a couple of seasons, playing many games for them.
From Player to Coach
After playing his final seasons at Mantova and Crotone, Matteo Paro decided to retire as a player. He then began a new career as a coach.
He joined the coaching staff of Ivan Jurić, who had been his head coach at Mantova and Crotone. In 2017, Paro started as a match analyst at Genoa. This role involves studying games and opponents.
In 2019, he became Jurić's assistant coach at Hellas Verona. Since then, he has followed Jurić to all his coaching jobs, including Torino, Roma, and now Southampton. As an assistant coach, he helps the head coach with training, strategy, and managing the team.
