Rimini Football Club 1912 is a football team from Rimini, a city in Italy. They play in Serie C, which is the third level of professional football in Italy. The club was first started in 1912. Their home stadium is called Stadio Romeo Neri, which can hold 9,786 fans. The team's nickname is Biancorossi, meaning "The White-reds", because of their kit colors.

History of Rimini Football Club

The club began its journey in 1912 as Libertas Rimini. Four years later, it became its own club called Rimini Football Club. For their very first official game, the team wore green and white kits. Later, they switched to the classic red and white colors we see today.

In the 1929–30 season, a new stadium was built for the team. This stadium is still used by the club today and is known as Stadio Romeo Neri. In 1938, after some financial difficulties, the club changed its name to Rimini Calcio.

Climbing the Leagues: Serie B and Serie C

For many years, Rimini played in regional leagues. These were similar to what we now call the Serie C system. It took a long time, but in 1976, they finally made it to Serie B, which is a higher level of football.

During the 1970s, Rimini spent three seasons in Serie B. They usually finished in the lower half of the table. They were relegated back down in 1979 but quickly got promoted again the very next season. In 1982, Rimini was relegated once more. This time, they stayed in the Serie C league system for 24 seasons. At one point, they even dropped to Serie C2, which was a lower division.

However, the 2000s brought better times for Rimini. They played in the C2/B playoffs six times in a row. This helped them get promoted to Serie C1. In the 2004–05 season, they became champions of Serie C. They also won the Super Coppa di Lega Serie C1. This success meant they returned to Serie B for the first time since the early 1970s.

Back to Lower Divisions

On September 9, 2006, Rimini made national news. They had an exciting 1–1 draw at home against the famous team Juventus FC. An Argentine player named Adrián Ricchiuti scored the goal that tied the game. Rimini even reached the top of Serie B in early 2007. But by the end of that season, they finished 5th.

Two years later, Rimini Calcio was relegated to Lega Pro Prima Divisione. This happened after they lost a special play-out match against A.C. Ancona. In the spring of 2010, the club faced more problems. The previous owners left, and no one took over the team.

A New Start: A.C. Rimini 1912

In the summer of 2010, the club was restarted with a new name: A.C. Rimini 1912. They began playing in 2010–11 Serie D, which is the fifth level of Italian football. That year, the club won the national play-off finals against Turris. The game ended in a 0–0 draw, and Rimini won on penalties. This victory led to their promotion to 2011–12 Lega Pro Seconda Divisione, the fourth tier.

At the end of the 2011–12 season, Rimini lost in the play-off semifinals. The next season was tough for the club. Rimini had to win two relegation play-off rounds to stay in Lega Pro Seconda Divisione. They were relegated to Serie D one year later. This happened because many teams were moved down as the third and fourth tiers were combined into one league. During this time, Fabrizio De Meis became the new owner of the club.

Eleven months after being relegated, Rimini returned to Lega Pro. They won Group D of the 2014–15 Serie D league. In that season, the team earned 86 points, and their striker Manuel Pera scored 30 goals. However, after the 2015–16 Lega Pro season, A.C. Rimini 1912 had serious money problems. Because of their debts, they could not join the next championship.

Rimini Football Club 1912 Rises Again

In the summer of 2016, the club was refounded once more as Rimini Football Club 1912. They played in Eccellenza Emilia-Romagna for the 2016–17 season. The next season, they played in Serie D. Both of these seasons ended with a promotion, showing the club's strong comeback!
