Matthew Allwood, born on November 16, 1992, is a former professional rugby league player from Australia. He played as a centre (centre) and winger (wing) for teams like the New Zealand Warriors and Canberra Raiders in the top-level National Rugby League (NRL).

Early Life and Junior Career

Matt Allwood was born in Scone, New South Wales, Australia. He started playing rugby league at a young age. He played his junior football for Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School. Later, he was signed by the Canberra Raiders to join their junior teams.

Developing Skills

As a young player, Allwood showed great promise. He was chosen to play for the Country New South Wales Under 17s and Under 18s teams. He also represented the New South Wales Combined High Schools team. These experiences helped him develop his skills.

Stepping Up

In 2011 and 2012, Allwood played for the Canberra Raiders' NYC team. This competition is for younger players who are aiming to become professionals. After that, in 2013, he moved up to the Raiders' New South Wales Cup team, which was the Mount Pritchard Mounties.

Professional Playing Career

Matt Allwood made his debut in the National Rugby League (NRL) in 2014. He played for two main clubs during his professional career.

Playing for the Canberra Raiders

Allwood made his first NRL appearance for the Canberra Raiders in the opening round of the 2014 NRL season. He played against the North Queensland Cowboys as a centre (centre). In that game, the Raiders lost 28–22.

In Round 7 of the same season, Allwood scored his first ever NRL try. This happened in a game against the Melbourne Storm. The Raiders won that match 24-22 in the final moments. Allwood played in 11 matches during his first year in the NRL and scored one try for the Raiders. He left the club before the season ended.

Time with the New Zealand Warriors

On May 20, 2014, it was announced that Matt Allwood had signed a three-year contract with the New Zealand Warriors. He joined the team in 2015. He played a total of seven games for the New Zealand Warriors.

Although he was with the club until the end of 2017, he mostly played for their NSW Cup team. This team is a step below the main NRL competition. In 2018, Allwood played for Newcastle in the NSW Cup.

Life After Rugby League

After his rugby league career, Matt Allwood explored other challenges. In 2025, he took part in the SBS series Alone Australia. This show tests people's survival skills in the wilderness. Allwood lasted 16 days in the wild during the competition.
