Matti Kassila (born January 12, 1924 – died December 13, 2018) was a famous Finnish film director. He became well-known in the 1950s and 1960s for his amazing movies. Many people consider him one of Finland's most important filmmakers of that time.
Matti Kassila is especially famous for directing four movies about Inspector Palmu. This detective character was created by the writer Mika Waltari. During his long career, Matti Kassila won seven Jussi Awards. These are important film awards in Finland. He even received a special "concrete Jussi" award for his lifetime achievements in film.
His 1959 film, Punainen viiva, was shown at the very first Moscow International Film Festival. He also helped write the script for the 1968 movie Here, Beneath the North Star, which was directed by Edvin Laine.
