Colonel Maurice Kershaw Matthews was a very interesting British person! He was born on June 21, 1880, and passed away on June 20, 1957. Maurice was an officer in the Territorial Force, which later became the Territorial Army. This was a volunteer army group. He rose through the ranks, becoming a lieutenant-colonel in the 1st City of London Regiment.

In 1930, he received the Territorial Decoration. This award recognizes long and good service in the Territorial Army. He was later given the special rank of colonel in the Royal Fusiliers. He retired from the army in 1940.

Political Role

From 1931 to 1936, Maurice was a member of the London County Council. This council helped run the city of London. He represented an area called St Pancras South West. He was part of the Municipal Reform Party, which was supported by the Conservative Party.

Public Service and Awards

In 1935, Maurice was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of the County of London. This was an important role helping the King or Queen's representative in London.
