Max Kruse (born November 19, 1921 – died September 4, 2015) was a German writer. He is best known for his amazing children's books. His most famous stories include Der Löwe ist los (The Lion is on the Loose) and Urmel aus dem Eis (Urmel from the Ice Age).

Max Kruse's Life Story
Max Kruse was born in 1921. He was the youngest of seven children. His father, Max Kruse, was a sculptor who made art from stone and other materials. His mother, Käthe Kruse, was a very famous dollmaker.
Early Life and Studies
Max briefly studied Philosophy and Business economics at the University of Jena. However, his studies stopped when World War II began and the university closed. After the war, he worked as a freelance ad writer. Later, he became a full-time author, writing many books.
His Famous Character: Urmel
One of Max Kruse's most beloved creations is Urmel aus dem Eis. This story is very well-known in Germany. It became even more popular as a TV show made by the Augsburger Puppenkiste (a famous puppet theater) and the Hessischer Rundfunk (a broadcasting company). There is even a computer-animated movie based on the novel called Impy's Island.
Max Kruse's Other Work
Besides writing, Max Kruse was also part of the advisory council for the Giordano Bruno Foundation. This foundation works to promote humanism and critical thinking. He lived in Penzberg with his third wife.
