Where HR Makes Its Shows
HR's main TV and radio studios are in a place called Dornbusch Broadcasting House in Frankfurt. They also have other studios for radio and TV in cities like Kassel and Wiesbaden. You can find even more radio studios in Darmstadt, Fulda, and Gießen.
HR also has offices in other towns. In 2000, HR opened new studios on the 53rd floor of the Main Tower in Frankfurt. HR also helps manage ARD's studios in other countries, like Madrid and Prague.
How HR Is Funded
People in Germany pay a fee to support public broadcasting. This fee is currently €17.50 each month. Since 2013, every household pays this fee. It does not matter if they have a radio or TV. This money helps HR and other public broadcasters create their programs.
What HR Broadcasts
HR creates many different programs for both television and radio.
Television Shows
HR helps make shows for a big German TV channel called Das Erste. They also contribute to other channels like 3sat, ARTE, KI.KA (a children's channel), and Phoenix.
HR also has its own TV channel just for the Hesse region. It has had a few names over the years. From 1964 to 1983, it was called Das Hessisches Fernsehprogramm. Then it became Hessen Drei, and later hessen fernsehen. In October 2004, it changed to hr-fernsehen. Since December 2013, you can watch this channel in high definition (HDTV).
Since the 1970s, HR has used a fun video during breaks. It shows kittens climbing on a box pyramid with the HR logo. This video has jazz music playing in the background. They even made a new version of it in 2015!
Radio Channels
HR has several radio channels, each with different music and programs.
hr1
hr1 mostly plays "middle of the road" and "easy listening" music. This music is usually from the years 1965 to 1985. This channel is for listeners who are generally between 40 and 60 years old.
hr2-kultur
hr2-kultur is HR's channel for culture and classical music.
hr3
hr3 plays popular music for adults. It started in the early 1980s. Back then, it was for young people. But the station has grown up with its listeners.
hr4
hr4 is for older listeners. It broadcasts local news and German popular music, often called schlagers. It also plays "evergreens," instrumental music, folk, and light classical music.
hr-iNFO
hr-info is a 24-hour news radio channel. During weekdays, it gives news updates every 20 minutes. At other times, it broadcasts special in-depth reports on many topics. It also has a quick news summary every half-hour.

YOU FM is HR's music channel for young people. It is also well-known for its Saturday night techno music shows.
