Maxwell is a small place in Hancock County, Indiana. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that doesn't have its own official town government. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Center Township.
A Look Back in Time
Maxwell was first planned and mapped out in 1881. This process, called platting, means someone drew up official maps showing where streets and buildings would go. The community was named after a person who helped build the railroad that came through the area. A post office was opened in Maxwell in 1882, helping people send and receive mail.
