Margareta Ackerman was born in Gomel, which was part of the Soviet Union. When she was seven, in 1990, her family moved to Afula, Israel. Five years later, they moved again, this time to Canada.
She studied computer science at the University of Waterloo. She earned her first degree in 2006. She continued her studies and received her master's degree in 2007. In 2012, she completed her Ph.D. Her Ph.D. research was about the basic ideas behind grouping data.
Academic Career
After finishing her Ph.D., Margareta Ackerman did more research. She worked at the California Institute of Technology and the University of California, San Diego.
In 2014, she became a professor at Florida State University. She then moved to San Jose State University in 2016. In 2017, she joined the faculty at Santa Clara University.
