About Mayako Kubo
Mayako Kubo was born in Kobe, Japan. She started her music journey by studying piano at Osaka College of Music.
Her Studies and Travels
In 1972, Mayako moved to Vienna to learn how to compose music. She studied with famous teachers like Roman Haubenstock-Ramati and Erich Urbanner. While there, she even created her first pieces of 'tape music,' which was an early form of electronic music.
Later, in the 1980s, she continued her studies in Germany. She learned more about composing and also about music history, called musicology.
Interest in Theater
Mayako became interested in how plays and performances are put together, which is called dramaturgy. In 1990, she moved to Italy. However, she later returned to Berlin, Germany, in 1994, where she has lived and worked since.
