Mayo-Kebbi Est (which means "Eastern Mayo-Kebbi" in Arabic) is one of the 23 main areas, called regions, in the country of Chad. Its most important city, or capital, is Bongor. This region was created from the northern parts of an older area known as Mayo-Kebbi.

Geography of Mayo-Kebbi Est
This region shares its borders with several other areas. To the northeast, it borders the Chari-Baguirmi Region. To the southeast, you'll find the Tandjilé Region. The Mayo-Kebbi Ouest Region is to the southwest. Finally, to the west, Mayo-Kebbi Est borders the country of Cameroon.
Main Towns and Lakes
The capital city of the region is Bongor. Other important towns include Djodo Gassa, Fianga, Gam, Gounou Gaya, Guélengdeng, Hollom Gamé, Katoa, Kéra, Kim, Koyom, Moulkou, Nanguigoto, Tikem and Youé. Two notable lakes, Lake Fianga and Lake Tikem, are also found within this region.
People of Mayo-Kebbi Est
In 1993, the population of Mayo-Kebbi Est was about 495,339 people. By 2009, a new count showed the population had grown to 774,782 inhabitants. Many different groups of people live here, each with their own language and culture. Some of the main groups include the Bagirmi, Kanuri, Kera, Kim, Kwang, Majera, Marba, Masa, Mbara, Musgum, Musey, Ngeté-Herdé peoples, Tobanga and Tupuri.
