McCoy's Story
McCoy started as a small settlement around the 1880s. It began as a church community for local families who worked on farms.
A post office opened in McCoy in 1885. It helped people send and receive mail until it closed in 1903.
By 1896, about 200 people lived in McCoy. There were also six businesses and three churches.
Over the next 40 years, the community became much smaller. During the Great Depression (a time when many people lost their jobs and money), the number of residents dropped to just 62. From the 1950s to 1990, the population went down even more, to only 20 people.
