McGhee is a small place located in Cherokee County, Alabama, in the United States. It's known as an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Instead, it's part of the larger county that manages its services.
A Look Back in Time
Early Days of McGhee
The community of McGhee was named after a local family who were among the first people to settle in the area. A long time ago, in 1897, a special building called a post office was opened in McGhee. This was where people could send and receive letters and packages, which was very important before emails and phones. The post office served the community for a few years, but it closed down in 1903.
