Meadow is a small place in Perkins County, South Dakota, United States. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it does not have its own local government like a city or town.
Where is Meadow Located?
Meadow is found in the northwestern part of South Dakota. It is about 12 miles (19 km) east of a town called Bison. You can also find it close to where two main roads, Highway 20 and Highway 73, meet.
How Meadow Got Its Name
The community of Meadow was first started in the year 1907. It was given the name "Meadow" because there was a very large, grassy field, or meadow, right near where the community was originally planned.
The Farthest Point from McDonald's
Meadow is famous for being near a special spot in the United States. In 2009, a point about 15.5 miles (25 km) west of Meadow was considered the farthest place from any McDonald's restaurant in the main part of the United States. This means it was one of the most remote spots for fast food! Another nearby community, Glad Valley, South Dakota, is also close to this unique location.
